The most important thing about grand pianos is of course the lovely full sound they produce. They also have different playing characteristics when compared to an upright. Essentially they allow more sensitive playing and therefore provide a wider range of sound. They also offer easier repetition of notes. If you will be working at higher levels or just enjoy the piano a lot then a grand is well worth considering for all these reasons.
