A medium priced piano made by the Samick company, a major international manufacturer. These have a very good action and light touch on the keys, with a medium to bright tone. There is also a high quality Academy series based on a German made upright.

The Samick company began relatively recently in 1958, but grew quickly and is now the worlds third largest piano maker producing 30 000 pianos a year. Their pianos have been designed with the assistance of Klaus Fenner, a German piano technician who is renowned for designing the German Imperial Scale used in many pianos. Reid-Sohn is the English imported name for these pianos.

Uprights begin with the RS series ranging from 108 to 131cm tall. The 115 and 121 are particularly good value and the RS112 is very popular with its inlaid panelling and more traditional appearance.

The Academy series is a venture with the German piano maker Feurich. This offers a higher quality upright piano of 123cm. This has a really rich German tone and can be fitted with the well known quality Langer action.

Reid Sohn grands are either made in Indonesia with the SIG series or in Korea with the higher grade NSG models. NSG models are higher in price but do offer very good value especially in the larger 5'8" and 6'0" sizes, and the Walnut finish is particularly attractive.
