One of the largest showrooms of new and used piano’s in the Midlands. We are a family business established for over 30 years. We sell both new and used pianos and believe it is important to offer a wide range of makes to choose from. By getting to know the best pianos to stock and preparing them to a high standard, we have built up a great deal of knowledge and expertise over the years. We always offer a warm and friendly welcome, Jon & Chris.

 More about us

Josefs Pianos was established over 40 years ago by our parents, Joe and Bette Shaw. They started with one piano in a small general music shop. Dad was trained as an engineer with experience of inventing and designing machinery. He was also a good pianist and soon became intrigued with the workings of pianos. They quickly moved on from this to become a dedicated piano specialist. Unfortunately neither Mum or Dad is no longer with us, but the firm continues as a family business, run by their two sons John and Chris, and Chris’s son, Warren.

In the early years we did a lot of reconditioning and rebuilding work here in our workshop and although we do much less of this now, the knowledge and experience we gained still proves extremely useful for us today.

Jon has always worked in the firm. He takes responsibility for all the tuning and preparation work as well as sharing the running of the business and working with customers. Jon was trained in piano technology at the London College of Furniture and has been a qualified member of the Piano Tuners Association for many years. He has continually developed his skills in tuning and voicing which we now refer to as his `magic`! Jon does have the habit of making a piano sound very special.

Chris joined the family business a bit later, but has now built up a lot of experience in piano regulation and also shares the business side and works with customers.

Chris's son Warren also works in the business with us. He has various responsibilities, from cleaning the used pianos when they come in and renovating the cabinets to website work and accounts. Pianos really are a family tradition for us!

Over the years we have forged loyal working relationships with major suppliers in the trade and we are established agents for prominent makes of new pianos including Yamaha, Kawai, Petrof, Ritmuller and Steinhoven. We have visited numerous piano factories over the years and got to know a great deal about the pianos we sell. We often have other makes of used pianos such as Bechstein, Welmar, Rogers, Knight, Bentley, Kemble, Weber, and Reid Sohnl.

We believe the responsibility of a retailer is to carefully choose what they stock. With pianos this means selecting makes and models which have the best tone and mechanism for the price. We review our stock constantly as we prepare and maintain the pianos. This way our customers can choose from the best options available.

Much of our trade comes through recommendation and we have been endorsed by piano teachers and tuners for a long time. As a result, the area we supply has grown and we now cover much of the Midlands and East Anglia as well as further afield.

So things have definitely moved on a long way since we first started. We now have up to 50 pianos in stock and took on more showrooms where we have a wider display of grands. We have purposely kept several individual rooms because we know people like to have some privacy when trying pianos.

Our tradition has always been to offer an informal and friendly setting where you can get the right blend of advice together with the freedom to try the pianos for yourself. We know our customers appreciate this from the feedback we receive, so please take a look at what they have said and feel welcome to call in or phone us for any advice you need.
